COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Picture
March 31 is National Indigenous Languages Day, a day to celebrate and honor Indigenous languages in Canada. This day reminds us of the importance of supporting the reclamation, revitalization, strengthening, and maintenance of Indigenous languages. The United Nations declared 2022–2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages: a call to action to preserve and promote these languages for future generations.”

The Tsuut’ina language is the official language of the Tsuut’ina people. It is one of the many unique and distinct variations of the Dene Language Family. The Dene Language Family stretches from Northern Siberia, Russia to the top of South America. It is the largest indigenous language family in North America. Other languages classified under the Dene Language Family include: Navajo, Apache, Tłingit, Tłincho, Ket of Northern Siberia, Denesułine, Hupa, Beaver, Chilcotin, Gwich’in, the Aztecs have recently stated that they are Dene and many more.

At Tsuut’ina Gunaha Nasagha, we understand the importance of Language Revitalization work today and everyday through using Tsuut’ina Gunaha in our workplaces, our schools, our homes and with each other.

TSUUT'INA GUNAHA NAMO-HI  LANGUAGE WARRIOR

Picture
Tsúut’ínà Gunáhà Násʔághà is excited to introduce a new social media initiative: Tsúūt’ínà Gūnáhà Namo-hí - Tsúūt’ínà Language Warrior

Similar to how Tsúūt’ínà people in the past were known for being fierce warriors, we want to bring this value of protection and fearlessness into the work of Language Revitalization. We recognize the hard work that Tsúūt’ínà Diná-tii contribute to the preservation and the survival of our Gūnáhà.

Each month, we will highlight an individual or group of individuals living or working within the community who are active advocates and supporters of the revitalization of the Tsuút’ìná language.

Do you know someone who you believe is a Tsúūt’ínà Gūnáhà Namo-hí? Send a message to our Instagram or Facebook page with the name, photo, and short summary of the person(s) you want us to highlight and we’ll add their name to our post schedule!
