4/15/2020 0 Comments COVID-19 UPDATEThe Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute will continue to create a language community in utilizing various traditional and virtual means. The COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted Tsuut’ina Nation, it is up to programs/departments to strategize and come up with a virtual way of learning and delivering services. However, during the Pandemic the Institute will focus on, “How can Tsuut’ina Gunaha be VIRTUAL/ONLINE” and make it easily accessible. This is an opportunity for the Institute to create an online community for Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute. It will take dedication and commitment from the Gunaha Institute to train ourselves to utilize online tools and will benefit for future programming.
Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute Administration Staff, Language Teachers, and Elders will continue to provide to all Tsuut’ina Nation Members and K4-K5 Gunaha Ats’idilashi the opportunity for language learning through platforms, such as School/Course Packages, Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute Website, YouTube Online Classes/Seminars, Social Media, Emails, Telephone Calls, and Check-ins. Overall , the Tsuut’ina Gunaha uwa Ninisha (Language and Our Way of Life) will comfort and ensure that all Tsuut’ina Dina-tii Mental Health will be at ease during this critical time. Language and Culture connects and forces us as human beings to learn more off the land. This will be an essential time to offer assistance for Tsuut’ina language and culture. To support increasing measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, we are following the Tsuut'ina Nation, federal, and provincial government recommendations to limit exposure through social distancing, restricted travel, and postponing gatherings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has been affected by the virus and disruptions to daily life. We know that this is a sensitive time. The Tsuut'ina Gunaha Institute commits to continue to implement language learning essentials. We want to ensure everyone is safe and healthy. UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA CERTIFICATE OF INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE REVITALIZATION GRADUATION 2021
In 2019, staff at the Tsúūt’ínà Gūnáhà Institute started their journey to attend the Certificate of Indigenous Language Revitalization at the University of Victoria. This program helped them develop practical strategies for local language preservation and revitalization initiatives that are unique to their local community. The CILR program was identified as first step in the learning pathway with a goal to increase the number of professionals and certified teachers on the Nation with fluency or pedagogical expertise. A total of 23 learners from the Tsúūt’ínà Gūnáhà Institute accessed the courses during the partnership, 14 will graduate this June 2021 and move onto University of Calgary Bachelor of Education program this fall, 2021. The University of Victoria will be hosting a virtual graduation on June 18, 2021 and the Tsúūt’ínà Gūnáhà Institute will be hosting a social distance Graduation event at the end of June 2021.
